NZ Sport Fishing Council (NZSFC)
The NZSFC is our national body. The Council was formed in 1957 with 5 clubs and has since grown in excess of 30,000 members. Our club was the 18th to join back in November 1989.
The principles of the NZSFC is to administer and process NZ record claims, act as political advocate of fishing practices and management. Support clubs with localised problems or issues, support, run and finance it's own research programs when needed and to foster the art of sportfishing by insuring members adhere to a common set of rules and guidelines when sportfishing.
A management committee is made up of delegates elected each year from within their zones and conducts day to day business of the NZSFC on behalf of our clubs. Our club in in Zone 3 which covers Tauranga, Bowentown and us. The club delegates are elected each year from current committee members and they must attend all regional and all full council meetings which you will appreciate can take up a considerable amount of personal time.
Subs to NZSFC are currently $4.50 per member with 50c going to the NZ Marine Research Foundation which pursues research initiatives for the benefit of recreational fishers.
